Are you new to travel nursing and unsure if it’s right for you? Meet Caridad Atienza, a travel nurse who recently embarked on her 100th travel assignment with Cross Country Nurses. She says when nurses ask her if they should try traveling, she tells them, “Go for it! You will have fun!” According to her, traveling is about freedom, and each new assignment allows you to enjoy:
- A different clinical setting
- A new geographical area to explore on your downtime
- Professional and personal relationships you will develop there
The first step is finding a recruiter you like, then deciding on an assignment, and finally going through the credentialing process required by each hospital. After you’ve successfully completed these steps however, you may still be nervous about what to expect on your first day on the job. Caridad has some advice for new travel nurses who want to be successful on a travel assignment. She tells them to:
- Be flexible
- Be respectful of the hospital’s procedures
- Do your best as a traveler in that hospital
