When it comes to travel nursing and relationships, you probably know there are both pros and cons. If you’re single (and ready to mingle), travel nursing offers you the opportunity to meet potential dating partners in cities throughout the United States. Dating as a travel nurse can be especially fun for those who aren’t ready to settle into an exclusive relationship. Dating in your assignment locations gives you a built-in tour guide wherever you are and keeps you from getting bored or lonely. When you’ve already fallen in love, however, travel nurse long distance relationships can be challenging if you are not emotionally prepared to go the distance. Here are three songs we think will help you look at travel nurse dating from a new perspective, whatever your current relationship status may be.

1. Faithfully, by Journey

Sure, this song is about a rock and roll superstar missing his love while he’s out on tour with his band, but the parallels to travel nursing and relationships are undeniable. He laments having to travel the country to make people smile (although the circus clown analogy is a bit of a stretch, if you ask us), while his relationship suffers for it. Sound familiar? A specific lyric in this song, however, offers some insight you may not have thought of, which can actually be a benefit of being away from your partner: “And being apart ain’t easy on this love affair. Two strangers learn to fall in love again.” No, it’s not easy being apart, but guess what? When you return from your assignment, you get the chance to fall in love all over again! Just thinking about it will give you something to look forward to as you carry on your highway run into the midnight sun.

2. Cuz I Love You, by Lizzo

Has there ever been a song that better described falling in love for the first time (or for the first time in a long time)? We’ve all been there… not expecting to fall in love, having a grand old time singling and mingling, when BAM! You meet someone and the reality of your helplessness slaps you cold in the face. And sometimes that revelation can be a painful one, especially when you find yourself doing all kinds of crazy, selfless things you did NOT see yourself doing before you met this person. “Ready baby? Will you be my man? Wanna put you on a plane, fly you out to wherever I am.” Yes, even buy him or her a plane ticket to your travel nurse assignment location because you miss them so much! Try not to cry, and remember, dating as a travel nurse does have both pros and cons.

3. Turn the Page, by Bob Seger (Or the cover by Metallica, if you prefer)

Life on the road can be rough, whether you’re the lead singer for a band or a travel nurse going from city to city to provide care. This song definitely takes listeners on a journey to the dark side of touring for a living, no matter what your profession. “Out there in the spotlight, you're a million miles away. Every ounce of energy you try to give away. As the sweat pours out your body, like the music that you play.” Yes, when you’re at work, giving your all to make others feel better, you can forget about all of your troubles temporarily, especially when it comes to the trials and tribulations of travel nurse dating. This song also provides some perspective about what it feels like to be an outsider, just trying to do your job and ignoring any shade that comes your way. As a travel nurse, you can probably relate.
