Even if you do work out regularly, both your mind and body can benefit from trying a new workout. Crossfit, Orange Theory, yoga, Pilates, HIIT and numerous other workouts are available at gyms and studios nationwide, and many offer a free or low-cost first class option. Being away on a travel nurse assignment is the perfect time to try new things, including a workout you haven’t tried before. Not only will it take your mind off your homesickness, but it will lift you out of your comfort zone in a positive way, and possibly lead to a healthy new interest that you can enjoy while you are away on assignment and back home, as well.

Allowing yourself to be pampered for as little as 30 minutes or up to a full day can have magical effects on your well-being. If you’re feeling homesick on your next travel nurse assignment, treat yourself to one or more of these services and you’ll surely turn your frown upside down. If you only have an hour to spare, consider a simple mani-pedi to help you relax and de-stress. If you usually just get the standard offering, ask to see their menu and maybe upgrade your service to include sugar scrub, paraffin mask or aromatherapy options. If you can give yourself a half or whole day, you can choose a combination of services that can have truly long-lasting effects on your state of mind. Body scrubs and peels, facials, massages and even a new haircut and style can lift your spirits and improve your outlook.
